What's up Wednesday

How can it be another Wednesday already? Didn't I just write one of these?

Let's do this.

What I'm reading

Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor. This is my type of fantasy: the weirder the better. I just love her prose. She's got a twisted visual style and I love that. I also bought Divergent. I read the first 50 pages or so but just wasn't feeling it.

What I'm writing
Aside from this blog post, still toying around with other manuscripts. I'm trying to figure out which one to pursue. MG? YA? NA? Something wholly new?

What inspires me right now
Hmm.
Great authors like Laini Taylor--ones who can create a world and characters so vivid they pop off the page and get in your head. A true gift, to be able to do that. I heard her speak on plotting once at a SCBWI event and she was great.

What else I've been up to
Trying to find a way to get in more fiction hours. I do it in the morning, before work. I always want to keep going but, alas, I  have to put on the Don Draper Advertising Suit and write ads for burgers and laundry detergent.

What have you been up to?

There is nothing more inspiring than reading the work of a really talented author. I am going to have to check out Laini Taylor. She comes so highly recommended.

Good luck picking a MS to write. Hope it's a productive week for you :D

I was not a big fan of the ending of DOSAB, but Laini Taylor's prose is swoon worthy. So much so that I did read the sequel and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Good luck with the writing. And choosing that next project! Usually I have six or so ideas on the backburner and just choose the one that burns brighter when I'm ready to write something new.

Thanks, Miss Cole. I'm really enjoying it. Thanks for coming by.

Alison, What to choose? What to choose? That is the question.

Ron, your second week of What's Up Wednesdaying, well done. I was just thinking the same thing about deciding which project to pursue, and how to pursue it, and so on. There are so many factors and choices that go into landing on a manuscript you can stick it out with. Hope you land on the right set of factors soon!

Also, i have The Daughter of Shadow and Bone as well and really need to read it!

Smoke and Bone is AMAZING! Laini Taylor has a brilliant twisted brain. I love her. If you ever get a chance to read her Lips Touch THree Times book, amazing as well. It consists of three short stories that will blow your mind. Her writing also makes me sad, because I think omg, I will never be this amazing. Ha. But I'm not a fantasy writer so I try not to beat myself up TOO much. ;)

Rebekah, I've spent the past few days reading two or three different projects. I have a YA historical fantasy that I'm kind of feeling right now. Maybe that will be the one. It takes place in Victorian England!

Dana, I'm only a quarter of the way into Daughter of Smoke & Bone, but I am really enjoying it. Wholly original. I have Lips Touch. I think I read the first story but need to read the others. Fantasy is my area also, but I think sometimes I should read more contemporary stuff. I may be the only YA writer in the world who has never read John Green.
