What's up Wednesday 2014

Happy 2014 to all. Ok, let's do this. What's up Wednesday.

What I'm reading
Finishing Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas. I really like it. It's fast-paced and has some really good world-building. I'm also reading Skellig by David Almond.

What I'm writing
I am working on a YA novel right now. It's a major overhaul of an existing work. I guess it's YA fantasy, but it only has one very crucial fantasy element in it, so I feel it's actually more contemporary YA than fantasy.

What inspires me right now
Having a lot of time off over the holidays was great. It proved to me how much I can really get done. So I'm still riding on that high, as well as getting back into the real world crap.

What else I've been up to
My MG novel should be going on submission soon, but I don't think I'll be blogging about it. Just crossing my fingers and hoping for the best.

I also joined a great community of kidlit writers. It's called the Enchanted Inkpot. Check it out.

My goal this year is to read more contemporary YA. What about you? I hope the Muse shines her light on you this year.

Congrats on getting so much writing done over the Holidays! How fun to be working on a new project. (That's always my favorite part)

And I'm crossing my fingers for you on your MG submission. (I'll cross my toes while I'm at it :)

Hope you have a great week!

Best of luck with submissions! I understand your reluctance to blog about it (I don't blog about stuff like that either), but I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you! Your WIP sounds very cool. I'm a contemporary girl, but I love books with one significant fantasy element that drives the story, sort of like SEPTEMBER GIRLS. Best of luck with it, Ron!

I'm enjoying Throne of Glass, the world building is certainly one of the best parts. Good luck with your overhaul!

Good luck with your submissions. I think that is probably the scariest step in the whole writing process. Fingers crossed for you.

what's with so many people reading Sarah J. Maas on WUW? Not complaining, I enjoy her books, just a funny coincidence I guess. I like your goal of writing more contemporary since I started a new one and am hoping to finish it up this year.

Good luck on submission. My agent is talking big about MG this year, so you are on the right track!

Good luck with your MG novel on sub and the revision you're making on your YA. I've got a YA that I shelved that one day I want to tackle again.

I'm considering an "overhaul of an existing project" for a future WIP. It'll require a lot of work though, so I'll have to psych myself up to it. :)

Have a great week, Ron--and all the best with the MG book! :)

I've been meaning to read Throne of Glass and Skelling for a while now. I really have to get on that. They both sound really interesting.

Good luck on your MG's submission!

Thanks, everyone for dropping by.

Katy, I've never heard of September Girls. Wait--is that Laurie Halse Anderson? I see a book cover in my head. Unless I'm thinking of Winter Girls.

Prerna, that is funny. I see a lot of people reading Sarah Maas today.

Jessie, it's interesting about MG. It's always been a big category but I think its entering a golden period or something. I've been hearing a lot of buzz about MG being the new YA. Yay for me and my debut. Uh, if I get that far.

Kim, Skellig is incredible. Spare prose and short chapters. Truly brilliant.

Thanks, everyone!

Definitely keep those submission deets under wraps! Hopefully writing your YA fantasy will keep your mind off the craziness of the submission process. Good luck!!!
