Superman was here

Last week when I was in Chicago, I was surprised to see that a lot of streets were blocked off around my office. I saw lots of film trucks and crowds, people taking cell-phone videos. Upon further inspection, I found out that they were filming a few scenes for the new Superman movie.

I was able to get this pic of two cabs marked up to look like cabs from Superman's city of Metropolis.

I missed it when they were filming the third Transformers movie right outside my office. My friends told me it was very cool. Explosions and cars being tossed in the air right from my old office window!

Not that I'm into Transformer movies. I haven't seen any of them. (Except for a few minutes on cable.)

This was pretty cool though. I later heard that our office is being used as the Daily Planet newspaper.

Don't get too smug. Li'l old Portland is THE place to film these days. I saw signs for Grimm yesterday, filming nearby. Sounds like an interesting concept, a detective show where the investigator is a "grimm" hunting mythological beasts and characters. But it's NBC, so I have low expectations. Last summer I drove through a shot in my neighborhood, messed up Timothy Hutton who stars in some dreadful tv series, and, of course Portlandia stars our weird and wonderful city.

That's funny, Michele. I've heard of this show and am looking forward to it. The pitch sounds great. I hope the show can deliver.

I really need to see Portlandia, but I keep forgetting to look for it on OnDemand.

Timothy Hutton. He was in that great film Ordinary People with Donald Sutherland and Mary Tyler Moore. I will always see him as that character.

How funny! There is an airport near me that is used to film movies all the time. Often think I should check it out when Twitter blows up, but I don't want to battle the crowds. :P

That just settles it. Gotham City and Metropolis are the SAME PLACE!!!

I'm curious. Which building were you working in?

AA--Filming is usually pretty boring, unless you can catch a scene with actors or someone doing something exciting. But those scenes are usually pretty well-guarded.

Reinhardt! I think you're onto something. My office is right at Michigan & Wacker. 233 N. Michigan.

TV shows and movies are shot around me, but I always seem to miss them. It is cool, though.

That's so cool! What a fun surprise in the middle of the day...except for the blocked off streets.

West Chester, PA is the home of a lot of the Jackass footage (the TV show) and all of the Viva la Bam show - so we used to see film crews all over the place. Even though they weren't movie crews, it was still exciting to watch stunts being filmed and then see them on the actual shows.

KM--that would be interesting to see. Although I think I'd have to avert my eyes. Those guys are complete nuts.
