Wild Things

The trailer to the film Where the Wild Things Are is up. You can find it here. If someone were to ask me who would be the perfect choice to direct this film I would have never said Spike Jonze. But now that I've seen the trailer, it's the perfect choice. This is the man that brought us Being John Malkovich and a bunch of wacky Bjork videos.

I am truly surprised that the studio and writers went this direction. The safer choice would have been to do a kittens and ice cream version full of happiness. But that's really not the tone of Sendak's book, is it?

I think this is going to be wonderful. I am sure I will cry. Something about the trailer just exudes the idea of daydreams and melancholia that fits perfectly with my remembrance of the book, but it's been ages.

Anyway, check it out.

Agent tip of the week

Thought I would have another post between my last Agent Tip and this one, but oh well...

Jenny Bent has left Trident Media Group to form The Bent Agency. (Her 15 years in publishing included a stint at Cader Books.)

Agent tip of the week

Trying to think of things to blog about...hmmm...

Oh, Hello. I didn't see you.

In my attempt to dust off this place I will be posting a new Agent Tip every now and then, whenever I get 'em. (I have sources.)

Today's agent tip:

Rebecca Gradinger left Janklow & Nesbit Associates and launched Finchley Road Literary, a boutique agency specializing in literary fiction, up-market commercial fiction, narrative non-fiction, memoir, humor and pop culture. (She has also worked as a scout at Mary Anne Thompson Associates and a lawyer practicing media and intellectual property law at Frankfurt Garbus Kurnit Klein & Selz).

Zombies

I went to Borders today during lunch and picked up this book.

I started reading it on the bus on my way back to work and was really wrapped up in it. It looks like it's going to be very, very, good.

I've been visiting Carrie's blog for a while and have eagerly awaited the day when I could pick it up.

And although I have never met her, it's a cool feeling to know the details of her journey: getting an agent, the revision process, etc.

I put up a post over at PenTales about self-promotion and I think Carrie has done a good job of it. So congrats, Carrie. Here's to a lot of sales!

A smile for the day
